09 Fuchs Lubricants Rallycross Open Championship Title Showdown

Grant v Manning v Mundy

Croft Circuit (Darlington) plays host to the final round of the 2009 Fuchs Lubricants Rallycross Open Championship, part of the 2009 Get Connected! SG Petch Rallycross Superprix event on October 31st & November 1st.

With over 100 cars already entered for the ITV Men and Motors televised event, including competitors from Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Norway, Poland and Sweden, the scene is set for another Fuchs Lubricants Rallycross Open Championship season finale spectacular.

In the Division 1 category, it is all to play for with anyone of three drivers in contention to win the title. Andy Grant (Ford Escort RS2000) starts as the firm favourite, opening up a ten point lead over Mike Manning (Ford Puma) following two strong results at Pembrey back in July. Two victories for Steve Mundy (Ford Focus) at Pembrey also brought the Ludlow driver into Championship contention and sits two points behind Manning in third place overall.

Four bonus points are also on offer (one for being fastest in timed qualifying, two for the fastest time in each of the two heats and one for pole position in the A final) leaving it all to play for, but with two full grids of Division 1 cars including a number of foreign competitors, the points advantage that Grant has, will be worth its weight in gold.

Jamie Lea (Toyota MR2) wrapped up the Super National title last time out at Pembrey, with Don Shannon (Volvo S40) also securing second place in the Championship. The mighty European Super National machinery are all set to join the action including a range of BMW E36’s and Volvo S40s - the British competitors are going to have a big fight on their hands.

Toby Crocker (Citroen Saxo) clinched the Division 1A title at Pembrey with Stuart Emery (Peugeot 306) doing likewise in Procar 2000, but both will have their work cut out to win the final round of the Championship.

In the Procar 1600 category anyone of four drivers could win the title. Steve Heppenstall (Peugeot 205 GTi) is now level on points in the Championship standings with Stuart Jackson (Citroen Saxo VTR), but the tie break system puts Heppenstall into the overall lead as he has two third place finishes compared to Jacksons one. Martin Peters (Citroen Saxo VTR) currently sits two points behind the leading duo, while defending Champion Kenny Hall (Peugeot 205 GTi) remains in contention, only 11 points behind. Two top four finishes at Pembrey for Craig Brown (Peugeot 205 GTi) were not quite enough to keep him in the Championship hunt, but he will go into the final round aiming to take his first win of the season.

It is a straight head to head fight in the Chris Birkbeck Junior Minicross Open Championship category between Bradley Bailey and Keifer Hudson. Bailey holds a seven point advantage over Hudson.

The Revivals category once again has attracted a strong entry, with Glenn Guthrie (Revivals B – VW Golf) and Lance Foster (Revivals D – Mini) set to continue their season long battle, having already secured their class titles. Simon Jackson (Vauxhall Corsa) and Michael Henderson (Vauxhall Corsa) will go head to head for the Revivals C title with Tom Edwardes (Rover Mini) currently holding the advantage in Revivals E.

In the Minicross category, six drivers will shoot out for the title with Kris Hudson currently leading the standings ahead of Ben Clark, Mark Griffin, Neil Wade, George Edwardes and David Bell.

Conor Flynn is all set to clinch the BMW Rear Wheel Drive Challenge ahead of Jonathan Bean, while Andy Scott is set to do likewise in the RX150 category.
